Observational Drawing......
In class the last few weeks now we have been doing observational drawing. Initially just starting roughly with indian ink and a stick drawing pots and pans, then slowing adding additional media to the pieces either by working on a layered surface of book pages or newspaper and then working back in the ink images with pencil/graphite, fine line markers, gesso and conte. We then started work on an object selected form the sand play area which resonates with us. The shadow of the object (negative spaces) made was blocked out with indian ink; the object that i selected was a wolverine figurine (blue man) was then drawn back on top of the shadow using water-colour pencils, chinagraph pencil and conte. We had to focus on the shadow and highlights of the object and try and re-create the overall form of the object. Some of the tonal contrast was gained by using gesso. I think that my work is some what balanced. I am not totally happy with my finished result as i know if i built up my skill more before starting that piece it wouldn't look rough..but then i guess you have to start some where don't you. As i am not a very confident drawer i know that i will need to practice to gain a better skill confidence and i am looking forward in doing so. When we have art next i will ask mrs vincent if the pictures of that work has been up loaded yet because last time i checked they weren't there.....beat you cant wait to see them!Oh also today in art we did this really cool task on the body and manipulating it. We had to cut images of the human body out from some photocopies and then then arrange them with some silver and gold squares to create our own human composition. Next lesson i have to draw the draped fabric back into my piece to create unity and connection in the work. I hope that i can get the hang of drawing quickly....
Well that is all for today
Have a good one
LOVE ME xx
